About Sonny Crawford
Sonny Crawford was born and raised in a small agrarian town in the Berkshire Hills of northwestern Connecticut. His father was, among many facets, a locally celebrated painter of portraits an landscapes, and his mother was a respected town official. From the onset he enjoyed illustrating subjects and objects in his surroundings, most often with a bent for comedy.
With his friends Sonny savored the beauty of his native topography. Nature was their playground, chief educator, and inspiration.
He also possessed an incorrigible wanderlust. After finishing an AFA at Northwestern Connecticut he moved to Strasbourg, France where he completed his BFA at the Ecole des Arts Decoratifs in wood sculpture and illustration.
Since returning to the U.S. Sonny received an MEd at Antioch University and became the head of the Visual Arts Department at Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter High School. His personal illustrations, portraits, landscape paintings and sculptures have been exhibited at numerous galleries and show rooms in New England. Recently Sonny’s work was seen at a show at the Chateau De Portales in La Robertsau, France.
Sonny now homesteads with his wife and son, both of whom are also artists, in western Massachusetts. They often travel together to California, Italy, and France.
